Hot 6: the front page of r/ClaudeCode
A small tool that reads the hot posts of r/ClaudeCode and shows the top six. It was one of my first builds with AI. I audited it, rebuilt it in this site's design system and connected it to the real feed.
The board
The six hottest posts when I last read Reddit's public feed (the date is under the board). Sort them, then open the discussion on Reddit.

How it works
- Read
- Clean
- Rank
- Show
A small Node script reads the subreddit's public RSS feed once, skips megathreads, keeps the top six and saves a snapshot. The page is built from that snapshot, so visitors never wait on Reddit and Reddit never sees them.
Reddit's JSON API answers 403 to clients that are not registered, so the tool uses the public feed instead: one polite request per run. If Reddit refuses, the script waits and tries again. If it still fails, the last good snapshot stays and the page says when it was read.
The audit
The first version, a Next.js app, looked fine in a screenshot. Used properly, it did not hold up. This is what I found, and what I did about it.

The posts were typed in by hand. The scraper never scraped. Now a script reads the feed.
One card showed the subreddit's member count instead of the post. Now every card is a title, a date and a link, nothing else.
The look borrowed someone else's brand: a terracotta palette, logos and a line saying "Inspired by Anthropic". Now it uses this site's own colours, type and components.
The first screen was a decorative 3D picture made of borrowed logos. Now the first screen is the content.
Touch targets were 36 and 20 px tall. Now every control is 48 px or more.
What I took from it
Looking at old work with fresh eyes is part of the job. The quickest upgrade was not a new feature. First make it true, then make it yours.
Built with
- Node.js
- Atom (RSS) feed
- HTML and CSS
- JavaScript
- Design tokens
The first version used Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui.
